Barbara Jean Phillips

Barbara Jean (Bill) Phillips, 72, of Spencer, Iowa died in Sioux Falls, SD on September 22, 2023.  She was the second of four children to Robert and Doris (Ulrich) Bill.  She was married to her husband Al Phillips for nearly 40 years.

Barb was an energetic, independent, strong-willed woman who at age 55, obtained her Registered Nursing (RN) degree.  Barb was also passionate in her pursuit of her interests and hobbies.  As a gardening enthusiast, she earned the title, Master Gardener.  She enjoyed participating in the Spencer Garden Club and supported judging various gardening events.  She entered flower arrangements annually at the Clay County Fair.

Wes Highland Terrier dogs and specifically Finnegan, was her pride and joy.  She trained and became a certified dog groomer and could often be seen walking Finnagan in Stolley Park sporting his latest grooming.

Volunteering was also important to Barb, as she held leadership positions in  PEO International.  She volunteered with the City of Spencer Parks and Museums and was active in her community.

As a result of a motorcycling trip to Woodstock Music Festival early in her life, she developed a lifelong passion for riding Harley Davidson Motorcycles with her husband, family and friends.  After retiring, Al and Barb could be found trailering their Harley's behind their motorhome to their next adventure.  This included annual winter trips visiting Texas' Gulf Coast where they met many new friends.  They would sightsee, craft and seek adventure planning future trips with  their motorhomes.

Barb is survived by her husband Al Philllips; brother Scott (Jennifer) Bill; Bob (Ann) Bill and many loving nieces and nephews.

She was proceeded in  death by her sister Nancy Gourley.
