Barbara Pierson, daughter of Howard and Florence Smith Mason, was born on February 14, 1933 in Ruthven, IA. Her childhood years were spent in Ruthven. She attended Ruthven High School where she played post guard and her sister Margaret played post forward on the Ram-ette basketball team. KICD called the passes "Mason to Mason". She graduated in 1951. Donald Pierson asked for her hand in marriage on her high school prom night. They were united in marriage on August 12, 1951. They moved to Norfolk, Virginia while Don served in the U.S. Navy. They moved back to Iowa in 1955. They lived in many Iowa communities while Don worked in the auto industry. Barb and Don returned to Northwest Iowa in 1979 after purchasing Don Pierson Ford. Barbara worked for several years as office manager at the dealerships in Spencer and Aberdeen, SD. They made their home in both Spencer and Okoboji. Later in 2000, they retired in Naples, Florida.
Barbara was a member of First Lutheran Church in Milford, Iowa and Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Naples, Florida. She enjoyed gardening, playing bridge, golfing, cooking and entertaining, and being Grandma to five grandchildren.
Barb passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2014 in Birmingham, Alabama while traveling with Don to their winter home in Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Florence Mason; father-in-law and mother-in-law Paul and Mildred Pierson, brother, Elwyn Mason, brother-in-law, Stanley Olson, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Joan Pierson.
Barb is survived by her husband, Don of Okoboji; son, Tim Pierson and wife, Judy of Aberdeen, SD; daughter, Robin Pierson Barber and husband, Duane of Spencer, granddaughter, Anne Barber Nessa and husband, Pete of North Liberty; granddaughter, Jane Barber of Iowa City; grandson, Paul Pierson of Minneapolis, MN; grandson, Fortunatus Massay Barber of Sioux Falls, SD; grandson, Thomas Barber of Spencer; sister, Margaret (Mugs) Olson of Tucson, AZ; nieces and nephews; many friends and relatives.
SERVICES
Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, October 24, 2014 at First Lutheran Church, West Okoboji, IA.
Memorial Services will also be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Naples, Florida with Pastor Steve Wigdahl officiating.
