Barbara Ann Woods

     Barbara Ann Woods, the daughter of Thomas and Vera (Kruger) Karl, was born on July 14, 1943, at her grandmother’s farm near Peterson, IA. She spent her younger years in Spirit Lake, where she attended school, graduating in 1961. After graduation, she worked at Safeway grocery in Spencer.

     On July 25, 1964, she married William Long in Spencer. Following their marriage, they lived in the communities of Cherokee, Milford and eventually settling in Spencer in 1992. While Milford she worked at A.A.L.F.’s in Milford for 20 years, and then Spencer Hospital the last 10 years. Over the years, William and Barbara were foster parents to many children and loved every one of them like their own. William passed away in 1998.

     Barbara married Darrell Woods on December 14, 2002, in Spencer.

     Barbara enjoyed playing bingo, doing crossword puzzles, watching old westerns. In her younger years she liked to go camping. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

     She passed away on August 25, 2023, at her home in Spencer at the age of 80. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands: William and Darrell, who passed in 2019; her brothers: Darrell, Dennis and Donald and her sisters: Beverly Longmore and Beatrice Reiter.

     Left to cherish her memory are her children: Tim (Darci) Long of Okoboji, IA, Roxane Geesman (Chad) of Hayden, ID and Todd Long of Spencer, IA; 5 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; her sisters: Bonnie Lambert (Tom) of Milford, IA, Brenda Johnson of Estherville, IA; her brother, David Karl of Milford, IA; other relatives and friends.
