Baxter Robert Ankerstjerne

November 9, 1935 — July 4, 2010

Baxter Robert Ankerstjerne, the son of Walter B. and Dorothy Alice (Payne) Ankerstjerne, was born November 9, 1935 in Sioux City, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Hornick, Iowa, where he received his early education. In 1950, his family moved to Peterson, Iowa, where he continued his education, graduating from Peterson High School in 1953. He continued his education at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, where he graduated in 1959. He returned to school at Iowa State, where he obtained his masters degree in 1988. Baxter married Colleen Murphy on June 21, 1958 at the First Congregational Church in Peterson. Following their marriage, they remained in Peterson, where they farmed for 45 years, until their retirement. He was an active member of the First Congregational Church. Baxter was also very active in his community, serving on the Peterson School Board for 6 years, on the Coop Board, the Farm Bureau Board and the National Farmland Industry Board. He was a member of the Lion's Club and enjoyed golfing, loafing, reading, traveling and wintering in Arizona. He also enjoyed traveling to El Salvador to help establish cooperatives. Baxter passed away at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD on Sunday, July 4, 2010 at the age of 74. His father, Walter preceded him in death. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Colleen of Peterson; three sons: Kent Ankerstjerne of Peterson, IA, Kirk Ankerstjerne and his wife, Mary of St. Paul, MN and Scott Ankerstjerne of Minden, NE; two grandchildren: Jack and Anna Ankerstjerne of St. Paul, MN; his mother, Dorothy Ankerstjerne residing at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer; two sisters: Gaylee Ward and her husband, Robert of Marysville, OH and Kristin Baier and her husband, Gene of Moville, IA; one brother, Craig Ankerstjerne and his wife, Janet of Independence, IA; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 8, 2010, at the Congregational Church in Peterson.

Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00p.m., Wednesday evening at the funeral home in Peterson.
