Bernadine Grace Meyer

Bernadine Grace Meyer passed away suddenly from a heart attack on March 18, her 64th birthday.  Her passing leaves a huge hole in the hearts of her family, friends, and pets.  Left to cherish her memory forever are her beloved daughter Jennie Davilla and partner Matt Hansen, beloved grandchildren Isabelle and Cortland Ries, her beloved siblings Becky Gilstrap (Thomas), Rhonda Morrow (Ken), Mark Meyer (Ann), and Lindy Meyer Jr. (Cheryl), and many other beloved relatives scattered across the states; her housemate Garold McGuire, and friend Gayle Davilla, who is now providing a home for Ziva, Olaf, Neo, and Skittles.  Others who will miss her include her Birthday Group friends Ann, Donna N., Donna J., Patty, Sue J., Sue C., and departed friend Denise; the McGuire family who thought of her as one of their own, her Hope Haven clients, and newspaper delivery customers.  She cared about each and every one of them.

Bernadine was born into a large family in humble circumstances in Missouri.  She moved to California along with other family members, met Bobby Davilla, and they celebrated the birth of their adored daughter, Jennie.  Bernadine obtained her Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) License and she and Jennie moved to Spencer for her job as an airplane mechanic at the Spencer Airport, where she worked from 1995 to 2003.  Now all the Davillas are here.

We will always cherish our memories of Bernadine’s dedication as a loving mother and grandmother who loved to spend time with her family as much as possible.  She was a faithful friend.  She was a genuinely beautiful person with a gift of sharing her joy in a way that lifted our spirits.  She cared deeply for the well-being of all animals, and loved beautifying her yard.  Bernadine loved her Volkswagen Beetles; her plants, her 1970’s music, as well as all things shiny, sparkly, and colorful.  Her many curio collections were beautifully displayed for all to enjoy.

Bernadine was preceded in death by her father Lindy Meyer Sr., her mother Clara Meyer, and her brother Matthew Meyer.

A Celebration of Life will be at the Spencer VFW, 15 E 21st St., on April 19, 2023 from 5 to 7 pm.
