Bernard "Bernie" Dale Campbell

     Bernard “Bernie” Dale Campbell passed quietly into heaven early Saturday, April 13, 2024, after a brief fight with pancreatic cancer. Bernie was born February 3, 1944, in Hartley, IA to Charles and Goldie (Dockweiler) Campbell. He joined his big brother, Duane, at home west of Royal.

     He graduated from Royal High School in 1961, and even drove the school bus his senior year.

     March 8, 1970, Bernie married his beautiful wife Mary Lou Lorch in Spencer, IA at the First Baptist Church. After their honeymoon to Nashville, they made their home in the house Bernie grew up in. They welcomed two sons to their union, Brian in 1974 and Mark in 1976.

     Bernie’s passion was the farm, making it his life's work. However, throughout the years, Bernie had a lot of hobbies. He played softball for many years, playing in the outfield. He enjoyed playing golf, enjoying the company of his many friends. Bernie and Mary traveled to many gospel music sings through the years. The last 21 years held his second biggest passion, his six grandchildren. From attending concerts, ballgames, building animals with Play-Doh, making pancakes, rides on the golf cart, to family trips to Florida. Each grandchild held a special place in his heart.

     Bernie accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at an early age. It was important throughout his life to be strong in his faith, and to be a witness of Jesus in everything he did.

    Left to cherish Bernie's memory is his wife of 54 amazing years, Mary, of Hartley. Son, Brian and Amber Campbell of Hartley. Son, Mark and Kristina Campbell of Hartley. Grandchildren Holly (Jon), Gabriel, Kaci Mae, Kallie, Owen and Maggie. Brother, Duane Campbell of Spencer. Niece, Starla (John) Winebrinner of Milford. Nephew, Carl Campbell of Hartley. Along with other extended family.

    Preceded in death by both his parents, Charles and Goldie Campbell. His father-in-law and mother-in-law Ervin and Lola (Woolston) Lorch. His sister-in-law Verna Campbell. Along with other extended family.
