Bernice (Tiller) Mincer, 89; July 5, 1922 - July 23, 2011 Recent resident of Heritage House, Buckley, Washington, former business owner and long time resident of Carson, Iowa, Bernice Mincer, will be laid to rest at the North Lawn Cemetery in Spencer, Iowa next to her husband of 62 years, Lyle Walter Mincer. Bernice Mincer was surrounded by her children at the time of her passing in Puyallup, Washington. The Mincers were married in 1939 and worked in farming in the Spencer area before moving to Carson in 1951. The war years were spent in Los Angeles and Omaha where Lyle worked for Lockheed and Douglas Bomber. Bernice and her husband were owners of Mincer Equipment Company from 1959 until they retired to Florida in 1987. They also farmed over 500 acres and operated a cattle ranch for many years near Stanton, Iowa. Bernice was active in church and social functions and was one of the original founders and sponsors of the Carson based 4-H club known as the "Carsonettes." In 1957 Lyle was named the "Soil Conservation Iowa Farmer of the Year". The family was also given the sweepstakes award as the "Iowa Farm Family of the Year" and was featured on the cover of the Des Moines Register Iowa Farm and Home Magazine. Bernice and Lyle enjoyed retired life in Lake Placid, Florida from 1986 to 1999 until failing health brought a move to Brush Prairie, Washington where they lived in a special apartment attached to the home of their oldest daughter, Lavonne Sargent. They enjoyed the festive events that brought them together with their 19 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 2 foster grandchildren and 5 foster great-grandchildren. Bernice was preceded in death by her husband Lyle on June 4, 2001. She was also preceded by her parents, four brothers and two sisters. She is survived by her brother Howard Tiller, as well as sisters Maxine Lewis and Lois Hardy. Bernice Mincer is survived by six children, Joe and Lavonne Mincer Sargent of Brush Prairie, Washington; Gene and Lorraine Mincer Ziemke of Milton, Washington; Richard and Kathleen Mincer of Boise, Idaho; Ron and Lacinda Mincer Ens of Vancouver Island, BC; Chip and Ladonna Mincer Kuntz of Buckley, Washington; and Terry and Kimberly Mincer of Sumner, Washington; 19 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at the Weeks' Funeral home in Buckley at 10:00AM. on Wednesday, July 27, 2011. Memorial services for family and friends from the Iowa / Nebraska area will be held at 7:00PM on Friday, July 29, 2011, at The Word of Life Fellowship, 3000 South 20th Street, Omaha, Nebraska 68018. Graveside service will be at noon on Satuday, July 30, 2011 at the North Lawn Memorial Cemetery, 2208 Highway Boulevard, Spencer, Iowa 51301.
SERVICES
Local Graveside Services will take place at 12:00P.M., Saturday, July 30, 2011 at Northlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Spencer.
