Bertha Besaw

Bertha Besaw, the daughter of David and Esther (Todd) Averill, was born June 19, 1938, in Des Moines, Iowa.  Her childhood years were spent in the Spencer and Okoboji, Iowa, areas where she received her education, graduating from Okoboji Schools in 1957.

Bertha married Alvin “Jack” Besaw on August 5, 1963, Worthington, Minnesota.  Following their marriage, they lived in the Emmetsburg and Storm Lake, Iowa areas and 11 years in Terril, Iowa.  They moved to Everly, Iowa, where she did factory work for Brown Medical in Spirit Lake, Iowa, for 17 years until her retirement in 2010.  She moved to Spencer in 2010.  Bertha was an active member of First Congregational Church in Spencer, Iowa.

She passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at the age of 83.  Bertha was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack in 1997;  one daughter, Sheila Erb; two sisters: Betty Matthiesen and Delores Hintz; and two brothers: Harlan, Doug and David.

Bertha is survived by one daughter, Brenda (Brad) Leth of Hartley, IA; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
