Bertha “Betty” Thomas, the daughter of Albert Guy and Lela Agnes (Ross) Lindley, was born November 10, 1924, in Orin, Wyoming. Her childhood years were spent in Conway, Iowa, and she received her early education in Sigourney, Iowa, and later Toledo, Iowa. She worked as a waitress in Clarinda following her schooling.
Bertha married Elmer August Thomas on April 7, 1947, in Troy, Kansas. Following their marriage, they moved to Spencer, Iowa, where she raised her daughter and worked at the Center Café for many years until her retirement. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Spencer. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading and handiwork. In her later years she became a resident at Longhouse Residence in Spencer.
Betty passed away at Longhouse Residence in Spencer, Iowa, on Thursday, July 4, 2019, at the age of 94. She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather; two brothers and four sisters.
Left to cherish her memory are one daughter, Sherran and husband, Wendell Keir of Spencer, IA; one grandson, Jason Keir of Windom, MN; other relatives and friends.
