Betty Bell (Sargent) Stoeber was born April 25, 1923 in Beresford SD, Union County at home about 30 minutes after twin sister, Bessy Ann. Her parents were Royal Morrison Sargent and Bessie Edythe Cox. She moved with her parents to McAllen, TX, when she was in 7th grade and she graduated from high school there. After graduation, she came to LeMars, IA, where she worked at Mount Drug Store, arriving by train on "Decoration Day", in May of 1943 and met future husband, Bob STOEBER who worked there too! They were married February 8, 1945 in Waco, TX, where Bob was stationed in flight school with the United States Army Air corps.
The couple returned to LeMars in 1946 and lived there most of their lives. Betty was a "stay at home" mother of seven children, all born in LeMars. Supper was always ready and when the children were young, all waited till dad came home before eating.
While in LeMars, she was active in Catholic Daughters of America & Christian Mothers. Her hobbies included crocheting and reading. She loved fried chicken. Her husband, Bob often fixed chicken for dinner on Sunday. Her children always remarked that she was "always there with a smile".
She moved to The Iowa Great Lakes with her husband, Bob, when he retired after 31 years with Wells Dairy. In 2005, they moved to St. Luke's Lutheran Home in Spencer, IA.
Betty passed away at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer on Monday, August 5, 2013 at the age of 90.
