She was residing at the Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley. Betty was born on July 22, 1922 and was raised and educated in Hartley, graduating in 1939. Following nurses training from St. Joseph Mercy School of Nursing in Sioux City, IA, Betty joined the Navy Nurses Corp and proudly served her country as a Navy Nurse during WWII and the Korean War. Following her service to her country, Betty worked in surgery at Spencer Hospital for 2 years. She shared her handiwork with many by giving dishtowels, scratchers, doilies and dishcloths. She was a great letter writer and card sender and in turn received hundreds of birthday and Christmas cards and letters. She also corresponded with several service members that she had never met. She was a regular caller to the KICD birthday line adding joy to many on their special day. She never turned down a game of cribbage. Betty was a long time P.E.O. Chapter CW member and also a member of the Methodist church.
