Betty Engelke

Betty Lorraine Andersen, the daughter of Hans and Norma (Appledorn) Andersen, was born July 7, 1949 in Primghar, Iowa. She grew up in and around Paullina, Iowa where she graduated from Paullina High School in 1968. Betty married Brian Engelke on November 27, 1971. They spent the first years of their marriage living in Hartley, Iowa and soon after moved to the Sutherland, Iowa community. After high school Betty worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone in Sheldon and Spencer. When the office closed, she worked for many local businesses in Sutherland and Paullina. Betty also worked alongside her husband at their auto repair business, Engelke Repair, from 1992 to 2001. Before retiring in 2013 she had worked 11+ years as a housekeeper at the hospital in Spencer. She enjoyed reading and going to races with Brian. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Bethel Lutheran Church in Sutherland. Betty passed away in her home in Sutherland on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at the age of 66. She was preceded in death by her parents, her infant sister Luella, and two sisters: Caroline Rensick and Darlene Blumeyer. Left to cherish her memory is her husband Brian "Butch" Engelke of Sutherland; her daughters: Angie Engelke of Eagan, MN and Leigh Engelke of Ames, IA; five brothers: Henry Andersen of Hartley, IA, Brad Andersen and Merle and Jan Beermann, both of Des Moines, IA area, Ronald and Betty Beermann of Paullina, IA, Merlin and Jen Beermann of Sheldon, IA; one sister: Bertha Laursen of Mitchell, SD; many brothers and sisters-in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins, and many other relatives and friends.
