Betty Jean White

Betty Jean White, the daughter of William and Nellie (Price) Cook, was born September 16, 1921 in Spencer, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Spencer, Iowa, where she received her education, graduating from Spencer High School. Betty married Louis (L.A.) White on February 7, 1943 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. Following their marriage, they farmed in the Everly, Spencer, Ruthven and Dickens areas until their retirement in 1988. They purchased the acreage south of Dickens and lived there for many years. Betty was a member of the United Methodist Church in Ruthven, where she was active in the UMW and the church circle. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi for over 50 years and taught Sunday school at the Grace Methodist church in Spencer. Betty also enjoyed knitting, making afghans and baby blankets for her grandchildren. She enjoyed bowling with her friends in her Monday afternoon league. She passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Monday, February 20, 2012 at the age of 90. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, L.A. in 2003; one granddaughter, Sarah Bendlin; three brothers: Clarence, Owen and Dale Cook; one sister, Maxine Larson. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Michael White and his wife, Candace of Dickens, IA, Susan Bendlin and her husband, Bob of Spencer, IA, Steven White and his wife, Donna of Columbus, OH and Kristine Davis and her husband, Mark of Libertyville, IA; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
