Betty Lou Ebel, the daughter of Christian and Hannah (Swanson) Dorman, was born February 8, 1927, on a farm near Melvin. The family moved to Melvin where she attended school and graduated from Melvin High School in 1944. Following graduation Betty worked in Bangert's Store until she was united in marriage to Ernest Ebel of Primghar on November 10, 1946, in Sheldon, Iowa. They farmed near Melvin until Ernie went to work for Frank Juber Implement. The couple then moved to Diagonal, IA in 1952, and later to Creston, IA, before moving to Spencer in 1957. Betty enjoyed being a homemaker and raising their six children. She also answered the cab phone when they ran Spencer Cab Company. She later worked at the Villager. On May 13, 2009, Betty passed away at the Spencer Hospital in Spencer, IA, at the age of 82. She was preceded in death by her husband Ernest Ebel; her parents, Christian and Hannah Dorman; one daughter, Bonnie; four sisters; 15 brothers-in-law; and four sisters-in-law. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Jerry (Mary Jo) Ebel, Shirley Ebel, Janet (Jim) Rusk, Kenneth Ebel, and Jane Ebel; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; five sisters-in-law: Helen Emerson, Eunice, Gladys, Lillian, and Mildred Ebel; as well as other relatives and many friends. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.
