Betty Mae Laursen

May 18, 1923 — February 2, 2016

of Peterson, Iowa Betty Mae Laursen, the daughter of Christ and Martha (Luetkeman) Felten, was born May 18, 1923 in Spring Township, Cherokee County, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church south of Peterson. Her childhood years were spent on the farm near Peterson. Betty attended and graduated from Brooke Consolidated School with the class of 1941. Betty was united in marriage to Elvin Laursen on April 21, 1943 at St. John's United Church of Christ south of Peterson, where she has been a lifelong member. They farmed first in Spring Township and later moved to a farm in Brooke Township in the spring of 1954. Elvin passed away on July 15, 1979. Betty continued to live on the farm until May of 1988, when she moved to Peterson. She was an active member of St. John's Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and Women's Fellowship officer for many years. She also enjoyed the Neighborhood Birthday Club, the 500 Club, Legion Auxiliary, women's cards, Tuesday Club, G.F.W.C. Her favorite spot was the vegetable and flower garden. She thoroughly enjoyed raising flowers and playing 500. Betty loved any and all time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She passed away at the Sunset Knoll Care and Rehab Center in Aurelia, IA on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at the age of 92. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elvin; three sisters: Luella Nothwehr, Helen Sump Judson and Ora Honsbruch and two brothers: Alfred Felten and Christ Edward Felten. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Roger (Jean) Laursen, Eileen (Eugene) Pickhinke, Bruce (Deb) Laursen and Lynn (Janet) Laursen; grandchildren: Brian Pickhinke and fiance, Kari Thompson, Karl (Jennifer) Laursen, Tammy (Matt) Hansen, Kristine (Bart) Soliday, Jill (Dave) Schoenherr, Justin (Annie) Laursen, Taryn (Nick) Kestel, Christopher Laursen, Heidi (Gary) Schultes, Jacob (Brenna Trouten) Laursen, Elizabeth (Andrew) Perry, Erin Laursen and Evan Laursen; 20 great grandchildren with one on the way; five sister-in-law's, 2 brother-in-law's; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M, Saturday, February 6, 2016 at St. John's Church in Rural Peterson, Iowa
