Betty McWhorter, the daughter of William and Mary (Studebaker) Morey, was born on July 31, 1921 in Kokomo, Indiana. Prior to her retirement in 1980, she was Dr. Klein's nurse at the Valley Diagnostic Clinic in Harlingen, Texas.
On October 22, 1947 Betty married H.A. (Mac) McWhorter at the Second Baptist Church in Harlingen, Texas. They lived in Harlingen for a few years, but resided in San Benito, Texas for the majority of their marriage. Following the death of her husband in 1989, Betty moved to Uvalde, Texas and resided there until moving to Sutherland, Iowa in 2004.
Betty enjoyed church activities at Baptist Temple Church in San Benito, Texas and at Baptist Temple in Uvalde, Texas. Betty and Mac shared vacations every year for 42 years with their lifelong friends, Edie and Loyal Price of Kokomo, Indiana. Betty loved reading, caring for her plants, bird watching through her windows, loving her two cats Sadie Belle and Bleu, and especially loved watching her grandbabies play.
Betty passed away after a brief illness on July 9, 2008 at Mercy Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa at the age of 86, just days from her 87th birthday. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mary Melissa Morey; her brother Gene Morey and sister Lois Macy; her husband H.A. (Mac) McWhorter; her sons Theodore (Ted) McWhorter of Uvalde, Michael McWhorter of Brazoria, and Lawrence McWhorter of Hesperia, California; she also lost a baby girl shortly after birth in Indiana. Also preceding her in death was her grandson Charles Cook of San Benito, Texas.
Left to cherish her memory is her sister, Mona Newburger, of Connecticut and her daughter, Mary (Missie) Hale, of Sutherland, Iowa; her daughters through marriage Anne McWhorter, Phyllis Bradshaw, Mary Jo McWhorter, and Terry Hertel. She was graced with many grandchildren. Her granddaughters are Judy Armentrout, Nancy Burke, Rhonda Rhodes, Janay Rose McWhorter, Lois McWhorter and Staci Hale; grandsons Dwayne McWhorter, Jerry McWhorter, William McWhorter, and Gene McWhorter; great grandchildren Kyle & Adam Burke, Rebecca & Lindsay Wagner, Mendalin & Jeremiah Rhodes, Brigette McWhorter, and Ethan Guttau; great great grandchildren Staci & Dwayne McWhorter, Jr., Hali, Kristin, & Hunter McWhorter; and beloved neice, Mary Kay Macy.
Services are July 12, 2008 at the Church of Christ in Sutherland, Iowa followed by her funeral at the Baptist Temple Church of San Benito, Texas on July 16, 2008 at 10 am. She will be buried with her husband & grandson at Mont Meta Cemetery in San Benito at graveside services following her funeral.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2008 at the Church of Christ in Sutherland, Iowa folowed by her funeral at the Baptist Temple Church of San Benito, Texas on July 16, 2008 at 10:00 A.M.
