Betty Beal Palmer Rust, the daughter of Charles Henry Palmer and Elizabeth Beal Twiss, was born October 12, 1912 in Delhi, Iowa. She spent her early years in Concord, NH before moving back to Iowa. Following graduation from Delhi High School, she attended Grinnell College and graduated in 1935 with a degree in music. Betty taught music in Webb, Garfield, Gillett Grove, and Spencer.
On June 17, 1939, Betty married Noel Douglas Rust in Delhi, Iowa. Noel and Betty celebrated their 60th anniversary together in 1999. They lived in Spencer for two years until they moved to the Webb area where they farmed for many years. Betty was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, the Eastern Star, and the Women's Harmony Study Club. She taught piano lessons in her home for many children, enjoyed singing in the choir, and sang solos as she had a lovely voice. Betty enjoyed golf, bridge, traveling in Europe and the United States having traveled to all 50 states. She also enjoyed reading, picnics, and spending time with her family and friends.
Betty spent the last eight years in Ames. She passed away on March 9, 2008, at the age of 95 in Nevada, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Noel D. Rust.
Left to cherish her memory are three sons Kim Rust of Denver, CO, Robert and Linda Rust of Webb, IA, Phillip and Dorothy Rust of Ames, IA; family members Vernon Walsh of MN, Donna Schultz of CO, 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, as well as many friends.
SERVICES
Memorial services will be held 11:00 A.M., Friday, March 14, 2008 at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Webb, Iowa.
