Bill O'Hearn

Bill E. O'Hearn, 61, of Spencer, Iowa, passed away at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD on November 28, 2008. A memorial service is being planned for a later date in the Spring of 2009. Bill Eugene O'Hearn, the son of Eugene and Bernice Bierman O'Hearn, was born October 29, 1947 in Spencer, Iowa. He was the only child of "Shorty" and Bernice and spent his first 18 years in Spencer. While attending high school he played the drums in the Spencer High School Band. He graduated from SHS in May 1966. he continued his love of music playing the drums with the band "Prince & The Paupers" while attending the University of Iowa. He graduated from the U of I in 1970 with a degree in political science and psychology. On August 23, 1970, Bill was united in marriage to Sandra McBreen from Spirit Lake. They made their home in Tucson, AZ where Bill earned his law degree from the University of Arizona Law School in 1972. Bill practiced law in Arizona and California for over 30 years. While in California, he was a very active Rotary Club member, and at one time served as President of his club. He took a real interest in 50's and 60's cars and volunteered countless hours at the San Diego Automotive Museum. Bill moved back to northwest Iowa in December 2004. Not a person to sit idle, he spent his retirement volunteering for several organizations. He was a very active Spencer Rotry Club member. He served on the Spencer Community Theatre board for 2 years and most recently was on the Building Committee for the expansion and renovation. Bill loved northwest Iowa and especially the Iowa Great Lakes. He was very involved with the Iowa Rock n' Roll Music Association in Arnolds Park. He served as a northwest regional consultant and also on the Museum Advisory Committee. The past two years Bill spent numerous hours volunteering for the Democratic Party. He was an official member of the Democratic National Committee and poured his heart into the 2008 election campaign. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Omer and Marguerite O'Hearn; grandparents, Louis and Agnes Bierman; Aunt Frances Stowell and uncle Vernon Bierman. He is survived by his aunts: Pat (Magnus) Johnson, Jackie Sorensen, Janet Koenig all of Spencer; Joan Koenig from Gillett Grove; and Janice Schultz from California and their families and numerous cousins.
