Billy Blair Rohrbaugh, son of Lou and Blanche Bailey Rohrbaugh, was born August 24, 1936, at Peterson, Iowa, where he spent his childhood years.
He was united in marriage to Carolyn Faye Gottsch, of Sutherland, on September 3, 1960. Shortly after their marriage he joined the Bethel Lutheran Church in Sutherland.
Having grown up during the Depression and WWII, he learned to work at a very young age. Bill drove truck for more than fifty years, leaving an impact on many lives.
Work was something he wanted to do, not had to do, and found retirement to be very difficult. He was a mighty force in all that he did.
He enjoyed motorcycle trips throughout the U.S. and Canada.
Bill's family, which includes his dog, Jake, and friends all meant the world to
him.
Win or lose, Bill was an avid Hawkeye fan. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren cheer and play sports. The South O'Brien Wolverines were as important to him as the Iowa Hawkeyes.
He was an avid Republican.
Bill enjoyed seven years after battling cancer in 2008, but lost the battle when it returned the second time this April. He passed away at his home in Sutherland on July 29, 2015, at the age of 78 years, 10 months and 29 days (79 if you asked Bill). He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Jimmy Lou, who died in the Korean War in 1952; his twin sister, Betty Chelsey; and a grandson, in infancy, Carson Nelson.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; son, Tim and wife, Jonna of Sutherland; daughter, Traci and husband, Kevin Nelson of Sutherland; five grandchildren: Karter and Keaton Rohrbaugh, Jaymee Logan and fiance', Cieve Smith, Daneille and Reid Nelson; three sisters: Shirley and David Olsen of Peterson, Phyllis McDaniel of Peterson, and Patty Miller of Griswold, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and of course, Jake.
