Bob Labrant

Bob LaBrant, the son of Roy Seeber and Audrey (Livingston) LaBrant, was born November 29, 1909, in Spencer, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Spencer where he received his education, graduating from Spencer High School. Following high school, he worked at Bjornstad Drug Store during the depression and later organized a feed company, worked at Standard Oil Company, sold real estate, and farmed. Bob married Jackie Raddon on August 12, 1939, in Spencer, Iowa. Throughout their married life, they farmed near Spencer until moving to town in 1962. He was an active member of the Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Spencer and on September 10, 1961, became branch president of the church and performed the first marriage ceremony in the Spencer Branch on November 24, 1962. He continued as branch president until 1972. Bob was an Executive Board Member of the Clay County Fair, serving as the Fair's president for 11 years. He was also a 50 year-member of Evening Shade Lodge #312 AF & AM, and a member of the Spencer Rifle Club. Bob loved hunting, golfing, fishing and spending time with his family. Mr. LaBrant passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Sunday, November 9, 2008, at the age of 98. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Jackie on November 20, 1987; and a brother, Donald. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter and her husband, Roberta and Paul Shearer of Spencer, IA; one granddaughter, Paula and her husband, Tim Radke of Alta, Iowa; 2 great-grandchildren: Nick and Ryan Radke of Alta, Iowa; other relatives and many friends.
