Bonita Lavon Speight

Bonita Lavon (Hagedorn) Speight, the daughter of Arthur and Etta (Miller) Johnson, was born May 20, 1923 in Dickens, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in the Ruthven area, where she received her education, graduating from Lake Center High School. Bonnie married Harold Hagedorn on December 24, 1940 in Hartley, Iowa. Following their marriage, they lived in Ruthven and later moved to Spencer in 1962. Harold passed away on February 8, 1976. Bonnie married Howard Speight on October 14, 1977 in Spencer. Following their marriage, they lived in Spencer, where she worked as an inspector for Aalf's Manufacturing for 12 years and later at Spencer National until her retirement. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Spencer. She was also active in the Eagle's Club, the Moose Lodge and the American Legion Auxiliary. In her spare time, she loved to travel and spend time with her grandchildren. Bonnie passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at the age of 87. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Harold Hagedorn in 1976; her son, Jim; her 2nd husband, Howard Speight in 1994; two brothers: Don and Alvin and two sisters: Ina Goff and Ann Thompson. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Virginia Glaser and her husband, Dan of Ruthven; Charles Hagedorn and his wife, Zelda of Dickens, IA, Ina Rae Chapman and her husband, Larry of Greenville, IA and Dianne Eldridge and her husband, Jim of Spencer; a daughter-in-law, Jody Hagedorn of Dickens, IA; two stepsons: Robin Howard and his wife, Cyndy of Anchorage, Alaska and Howard Speight, III and his wife, Alyce of Spencer, IA; sister-in-law, Ruth Johnson of Spencer; many grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, September 10, 2010, at the First Christian Church in Spencer.

Visitation will begin after 3:00 P.M., Thursday, with the family present from 6:00 - 8:00P.M., Thursday evening at the funeral home.
