Spencer

Bonnie Jean Allison (nee Wickenhagen), age 72 of Spencer, Iowa, passed away Thursday, February 1, 2024 peacefully at home.

Bonnie was born on June 13, 1951, and grew up on her family farm near Meriden, Iowa.  She graduated in the class of 1969 from Meriden-Cleghorn High School, and then graduated in the class of 1973 from Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa.  She is remembered by family and friends as a creative and compassionate person with a sweet disposition.  She fondly looked back on memories of a life volunteer service, of which helping resettle refugee families from Laos she was most proud.  She enjoyed quilting and scrapbooking in her retirement, and hearing her grandchildren play the violin and cello.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her second husband Al Allison, her parents, Estel and Blanche Wickenhagen, and her brothers Roger and Donald.  She leaves behind her children, Eric (Kelly) Van Veldhuizen of Fayetteville, GA, Alyssa (Nathan) Smythe of Lake Balboa, CA, and six grandchildren: Elias, Caroline, Philippa, Micah, Deitrich, and Miriam Van Veldhuizen, her sister Ardyce Skaggs of Cherokee, IA, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Following the services at the church, there will be a reception and a time to visit with the family.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to one of her favorite charities, The Gospel Mission of Sioux City, IA.
