Bonnie Gail Pingel Reed

January 26, 1925 — November 24, 2008

Bonnie Gail (Cobb, Pingel) Reed, the daughter of George and Berneice (Moody) Cobb, was born January 26, 1925 on a farm two miles north of Rossie, Iowa where she lived the first twenty years of her life. She received her education in Rossie Consolidated School, where she graduated in 1942. She attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake for two years and then taught school for one year in Royal, Iowa. Bonnie married Ralph E. Pingel on October 10, 1945 in St. John's Church at Brooke. They farmed 10 miles southwest of Peterson for ten years. They and their family of four children then moved to the farm just north of the St. John Church, 4 miles south of Peterson. Bonnie began teaching in the Sioux Valley School at Linn Grove in 1959. She completed her B.A. degree while attending Buena Vista in 1967. She then taught school in Sutherland Elementary for 21 years before retiring in 1988. In the 30 years of teaching, she loved every student she taught. Bonnie was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church being actively involved in the Esther Circle and United Methodist Women, which her social life and work were centered around. She was also a member of N.E.A. and I.S.E.A. She felt very blessed, because she had most of her family living in the area to enjoy. They lived in Peterson when her husband passed away in 1986. She then married Byron Reed in 1989. Besides her love for her God, her four children and their families were the love of her life. She thoroughly enjoyed three generations of sports and other activities with her family. Later in life, she developed a love for golfing and playing cards with her friends and family. We, as a family, know how blessed we were with this beautiful lady. We also have been told by many, what a great influence she was in their lives. She always said, "One main reason that I've taught, is my love for children and wanting them to grow up with not only the best education they can have, but also to be the best kind of person they can be." For those reasons, we have been told many times, "She was my favorite teacher." Preceding her in death were her parents, her first husband Ralph, her second husband, Byron, and her sister Jo Sharp. Left to cherish her memory is her sister, Jean Poole of Martinsville, Indiana; her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren: Daughter, Shamon & Ron Krager of Peterson; grandchildren and great grandchildren: Tanya & Todd Herrig, Bailey, Presley, & Trey; Kyle & Melissa Krager, Samantha; Ralna & Ben McVinua; Kasey & Nichole Krager, Caden, Taylor & Bradi; Son, Kevin & Barb Pingel of Alta; grandchildren & great grandchildren: Kami & Devin Houser, Jakob, Katie & Allie; Jayson & Nikki Pingel, Jared, Hayley & Jackson; Shawnda Pingel; Son, Brent & Jan Pingel of Peterson; grandchildren & great grandchildren: Ben Pingel; Luke & Amanda Pingel, Adysen & Parker; Daughter, Shayla & Don Tibbetts of Peterson; grandchildren & great grandchildren: Angela Mitchell, Keegan: Cody & Abby Tibbetts; Brittney Tibbetts & friend, Joe Ackerman; her step children Doug Reed (Diane) of Peterson; Jon Reed (Gayle) of Humboldt; Mary Jo Olthoff (Mike) of Storm Lake, and 6 step-grandchildren; as well as many other special relatives and friends.
