Brian Lee Spooner

Brian Lee Spooner was born on October 24, 1974, in Spencer, IA. He was raised in Spencer where he completed his schooling and graduated in 1995. Following high school, Brian went to work for Heartland Beef which he later followed when the company moved to Oklahoma. On July 20^th of the same year, he was joined in marriage to Stephanie Fude. To this union, Danika was born. The two later divorced. 

In June of 2002, he married Brittney VanderVeen and together they had three children: Kiahna, Chloe, and Jase. The couple later divorced. It was during this time that he worked for Heartland Beef in Oklahoma. The family moved back to Iowa in 2005 where Brian went to work for Jack Links in the town of Laurens. He loved to help people, even complete strangers, so while he resided in Laurens, he decided to join the fire department as a volunteer firefighter. 

In 2009, he moved back to Spencer and worked for Southshore Pioneer Seed Co. as a supervisor in the warehouse. He stayed with the company until his health issues forced him to retire. 

Brian had a love of the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and relaxing in his hammock. This love he passed down to his children and grandchildren who were his pride and joy. He was also a huge Las Vegas Raiders and Oklahoma Sooners fan, and rarely went without dressing in his teams’ colors and logos. Brian was always reminiscing about his youth and was a huge fan of anything that reminded him of it. He was a huge fan of anything from the 80’s- the music, the hairstyles, the clothes, and the simpler way of life. It was during his younger years that he was a part of a paintball team known as the Regulators, which consisted of his family and friends. He also enjoyed spending his time with his dog, Lenon, whom he loved dearly.  

He returned to his heavenly home on April 5, 2024, at his home. He was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents and his two uncles: Norman Spooner and David Hoffard Sr. 

Left to cherish his memory are his children: Danika Cox, her husband, Bryan, and their son, Oliver of Spencer, IA; Kiahna Spooner and her son, Finnegan of Spirit Lake, IA; Chloe Spooner, her fiancé, Braiton McDonald, and their daughter, Oaklynn of Rock Valley, IA and Jase Spooner of Spirit Lake, IA; his parents, Kenneth and Colleen Hoffard Sr.; his sisters: Heather Rutter and her husband, Travis of Spencer, IA; Rachell Hoffard (Rick Hollander) of Spencer, IA; his brother, Kenny Hoffard Jr. and his wife, Rachel of Spencer, IA; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
