Burdette Auburon Stier

March 19, 1932 — December 15, 2012

Burdette Auburon Stier, the son of Florence Mae Krause, was born March 19, 1932 in Peterson, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Peterson, where he received his education. He later entered the military in April of 1951, where he served for four years with most of his service on the Destroyer Hailey. He also served 6 years with the Air National Guard after being transferred from the International Guard. Burdette was a member of the Air Force Reserve from 1959 to 1961 and later served four more years in the Navy serving on the Norfolk, VA Base. He joined the active Naval Reserve, until retiring in 1979 from active duty. Burdette married Carmen Harrell on March 17, 1965 in Columbia, NC. Following their marriage, they lived in the Chicago area in Mundelein, IL, where he worked for Elliott Turbo Machinery for over thirty years, until his retirement in the Fall of 1995. Burdette and Carmen moved back to Peterson shortly after his retirement to be closer to his mother. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Peterson. He became an active member of the Peterson community, as a member of the Senior Citizen's Center serving as site manager, longtime commander of the Peterson American Legion Dean-Underwood Post #10 and served as Past President and current Vice President of the Peterson Heritage Club. Burdette also enjoyed antique tractors and took great enjoyment on working on them. He had totally rebuilt a 1950 Massey-Harris Model 22 tractor and also had a 1946 Farmall H. He went on several tractor rides and was always the first out of the blocks. Burdette also enjoyed spending his free time fishing, woodworking and going on vacations with all of his kids together. Burdette passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee, Iowa on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at the age of 80. He was preceded in death by his mother.
