Carl Ernest Bruns

December 17, 1911 — February 3, 2013

Carl Ernest Bruns, the son of Enno and Dena (Christians) Bruns, was born December 17, 1911 on a farm north of George, Iowa. His childhood years were spent on the family farm near George, where he received his education, graduating from George High School. He later attended Iowa State College, where he received his degree in Agriculture. Carl married Mildred Douglass on December 25, 1936 in Hampton, IA. Following their marriage, they lived in Sheldon, Iowa, where he worked as an Agriculture Vocational Teacher for about 15 years. Carl began selling insurance, which he continued for many years, never officially retiring. They moved to Spencer, Iowa in 1994. He was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer, where he was a member of several church organizations including the Methodist Men. He was also a longtime Kiwanis member. Carl enjoyed life and spending time with his family and friends along with being together with him wife, Mildred for over 76 wonderful years. He passed away at the Spencer Municipal Hospital on Sunday, February 3, 2013 at the age of 101. Carl was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Pete, Tom and Louis and one sister, Reka Sudenga. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mildred of Spencer; two sons: Bill Bruns and his wife, Sandi of Omaha, NE and Jim Bruns and his wife, Nadine of Rohnert Park, CA; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.

East Lawn Cemetery Sheldon, Iowa 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, February 6, following the lunch at Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer.
