Harold Carlson, the son of Oscar and Marie Gomer Carlson, was born February 20, 1929, on a farm near Truesdale, Iowa. Harold received his education and graduated from Albert City High School where he enjoyed playing basketball and football. Following his schooling, Harold entered the United States Army serving in Italy during W.W. II. After his honorable discharge, Harold continued his education at Iowa State University.
On September 16, 1950, Harold married Ruth Challand in Laurens, Iowa. Following their marriage, Harold was called back to duty serving during the Korean War. When Harold returned from active duty he worked for Hursom Construction in Laurens, Roth Construction in Storm Lake, and then operating his own Harold Carlson General Contractor business until his retirement at the age of 69. In his spare time, Harold enjoyed the outdoors by going to the lake, fishing, hunting and boating. He also enjoyed doing puzzles. In 2009, Harold moved to Spencer to be closer to his family.
On October 27, 2013, Harold passed away at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 84. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth in 1997 and his son James in 1979.
Harold is survived by his daughter and her husband, Susan and Mark Nothwehr of Spencer; his grandchildren: Ben (Jody) Nothwehr, Morgan Nothwehr and Caleb (Amy) Nothwehr; great grandchildren: Lucy, Mary and Samuel; siblings: Lillian Sundstorm of Houston, TX, Robert Carlson of Storm Lake, IA, Betty Greene of Des Moines, IA and Margit (Darrel) Behrens of Albert City, IA.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, October 30, 2013, at First English Lutheran Church in Spencer.
