Carol Ann Burgeson

October 12, 1942 — March 3, 2017

Carol Ann Burgeson, the daughter of Bertel and Ella (Halverson) Lyster, was born October 12, 1942, in Linn Grove, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Linn Grove, where she received her education, graduating from Sioux Valley High School. She later attended Waldorf College in Forest City. Carol graduated from nursing school at St. Anthony's Nursing School in Carroll, Iowa. After her graduation, she worked in Sioux City at St. Joseph Hospital. She also took some time and traveled to Europe for six months with her friend, Kelly. Carol married William 'Bill' Burgeson on July 26, 1969 in Linn Grove, IA. After their marriage, they moved to a farm near Royal, where they farmed for one year. In the early 70's, they moved to Royal and have resided for over 40 years. She worked at St. Luke Lutheran Home for a short time and then stayed home to raise her children. In 1986, she returned to her nursing career, working at the Sioux Rapids Care Center and then Longhouse Residence and Northshire in Spencer. Throughout her semi-retirement, she worked at Walmart for several years, and also cared for many elderly people so they could stay in their own home as long as possible. Carol loved going to the casino, bargain shopping, helping people in the community, baking, canning, freezing fresh produce and enjoying her family. She was a devoted member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Royal. Carol passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Friday, March 3, 2017, at the age of 74. She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Scott Allan. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Bill of Royal; two daughters: Michele (Tim) Stiles of Altoona, IA, and Natalie (Gary) Gunnerson of Peterson, IA; her grandchildren: Brock and Gabe Stiles, and Camden Gunnerson; one brother, Jack (Colleen) Lyster of Cedar Rapids, IA; one sister, Jill (Henry) Meyer of Spencer, IA; several nieces and nephews; an honorary granddaughter, Riley Schoelerman; other relatives and many friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or Trinity Lutheran Church in Linn Grove, Iowa.

SERVICES

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 9, 2017, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Royal, Iowa.

Public visitation will begin 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 8, with the family present 6-8:00 p.m., at the Warner Funeral Home in Spencer, Iowa.
