Carol Louise Olson, the daughter of Verne and Loretta Van Buren, was born November 5, 1931 in Pawnee City, NE. Carol attended elementary and high school in Spencer, Iowa, where she graduated in the class of 1949. She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from California State University, Long Beach, and a year later graduated from Pepperdine University with a master’s degree in Education.
She and John Olson were married in the First Christian Church, Spencer, in 1953. They moved to Torrance, California where they lived and raised their two sons, Steve and Greg. She taught Kindergarten in Torrance for 22 years. For many years she was an active member of Kappa Kappa Iota, a national sorority for Women in Education.
After living in California for 55 years, she and John decided to move back to Spencer, Iowa in 2009.
Carol is preceded in death by her parents, Verne and Loretta Van Buren and brothers, James, Paul & Max.
She is survived by her husband, John of Spencer, Iowa; sons, Steve (Teresa) Olson of Milford, Iowa and Greg (Lisa) Olson of Redondo Beach, California; grandsons: John, Ryan, Lance, and step-grandsons: Jason (Christina) and Robert Walker; granddaughter, Nicole (Max Goldberg); great grandchildren: Camden, Olivia and Ava; sister, Joyce (Bill) Thomas of Superior, WI; sister-in-law, Doris Olson; brother-in-law, William Olson; as well as other relatives and friends.
