Carol R. Carpenter, age 79, passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2011 after a lengthy illness.
She resided at Ruthven Community Care Center, where she received many years of dedicated and compassionate care from the staff. Carol spent most of her life in Sioux City, she described herself as a city girl. She was born on December 19, 1932 to Joseph P. and Ruth (Hansen) Gordon. Carol was a 1952 graduate of Central High School where she was it's 1953 May Queen. She married Robert W. Carpenter in September, 1953 in Hannibal, Missouri.
Mom started her working career in 1968 in Sioux City with banking positions, followed by employment with Snelling and Snelling Employment Agency as an employment counselor. She was most proud of her many years at Midwest Energy Headquarters where she greeted many employees and visitors from her information/security desk. Her smiling face greeted many who entered the Headquarters for which she was very proud. Upon retirement she moved to the Spencer area to be closer to family.
She is survived by three children: Roberta Carpenter, Dickens, Dr. RJ Carpenter (Jacqui), Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, Dr. Chris Carpenter (Ranae), Cherry Hills Village, Colorado; five grandchildren: Melissa Jordan, Dickens, Kaela and Colin Carpenter, Castle Rock, Colorado, Nicholas and Connor Carpenter, Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, Lindsey (Tyler) Rhoten, New York City, Tyler Magness, Denver, Colorado.
Preceding Carol in death were her parents, Joseph P. and Ruth (Hansen) Gordon, a brother Neil T. Gordon and her children's father Robert W. Carpenter (Feb. 2011).
Warner Funeral Home is handling arrangements for the family. After Cremation, a private ceremony is planned. Memorials may be designated to: Ruthven Community Care Center, Ruthven, Iowa 51358.
