Carol V. Douglas, the daughter of Harry J. and Carol (Hoke) Harson, was born December 17, 1935 in Rowan, IA. At 5 years of age, the family moved to Emmetsburg, IA, where Carol attended school, graduating in 1953.
Carol married Lyle Douglas on June 12, 1955 in Rodman, Iowa. Lyle and Carol farmed by Mallard, Iowa for 32 years. In 1987, the couple moved to Emmetsburg when Lyle became disabled. When Carol was in Emmetsburg, she cleaned houses. In 2000, Carol moved to Spencer to be closer to her family and she worked in an office, retiring in June of 2010. She was a former member of the Mallard Methodist Church, where Carol was Secretary-Treasurer of the UMW and also taught Sunday school. She attended Grace United Methodist Church while she resided in Spencer.
She passed away at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at the age of 86. Carol was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lyle in 1996; four brothers: Robert, Harold, and two in infancy; and 4 sisters: Marion Morgan, Bernita Dunham, Janice Christensen and Nancy Glackin.
Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters: Donna (Dave) Cooke and Coleen (Rick) Cooke all of Spencer, IA; four grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; one sister, Lowene Heaverlo of Carter Lake, IA; a brother, Donald Harson of Hartley, IA; other relatives and friends.
