Caroline Kressin, 87, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, June 21, 2014. She was born Caroline Christina Hannah Friedrich, on September 27, 1926, to Rev. Walter and Alma (Thraum) Friedrich, in Willow Township, Greene County, Iowa. She was baptized in infancy, and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in 1941, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Coon Rapids, Iowa, by her father. Caroline received her early education at Willow Township Country School #4 in Greene County and graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 1944. Following her schooling at Concordia, River Forest, IL, Caroline taught in rural and Lutheran Parochial schools for nine years at the elementary level, in Council Bluffs, Marcus, Lotts Creek, and Hanover, IA. After her children graduated, she worked at Shepherd's Cottage in Burt, IA, until her retirement.
On August 14, 1955, Caroline married Orville L. Kressin in Fenton, IA. Following their marriage, they settled on a farm near Lotts Creek. They moved to Burt in 1984. In 2004, Caroline moved to Spencer. She was a long-time member of Lutheran Women's Missionary League, including serving as president and many other offices and committees. She also taught and attended Bible studies for many years. She was a longtime member of St. Luke Lutheran Home Auxiliary. She was a member of First English Lutheran Church in Spencer, where she was active in the Phone Ministry until she left her home in May. In her spare time, Caroline enjoyed crossword puzzles, watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, traveling to the Eastern U.S., spending time with family and friends, and was an avid collector of crosses.
Caroline is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Orville; two brothers, Rev. Martin Friedrich and Rev. William Friedrich; and two nephews, Dr. William Friedrich and Ronald Friedrich.
She is survived by her two daughters, Dr. Elizabeth Kressin (Dr. Rex Jones), Spencer, and Mary Ann Kressin, New Brighton, MN; one grandson, Sergey Jones; two brothers, Rev. Henry Friedrich (Evelyn), Algona, and Rev. Robert Friedrich (Irene), Willmar, MN; one sister, Christina Fiechtl (Tom), Bottineau, ND; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Friedrich, Harvey, LA, and Marlene Friedrich, Murphysboro, IL, and many other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, June 28, 2014 at First English Lutheran Church in Spencer.
