Carolyn A. Bertness

Carolyn A. Bertness, the daughter of Melvin and Margaret Wehrenberg Weber, was born May 23, 1941, in Webb, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Webb where she received her education, graduating from Webb High School in 1958. Carolyn married Kenneth Bertness on October 11, 1959, in Webb. Following their marriage, they moved to Sioux Rapids where they farmed together and she did all the bookkeeping for K & C Farms, which they owned together. They also operated a seed business for many years. She was a member of the First United Church of Christ in Sioux Rapids where she served on the church boards and was a youth group leader. She was a member of the P.E.O. and was involved in many community benefits. Carolyn and Kenny were always first in line to help their friends and neighbors in time of need. Carolyn loved to raise flowers and take care of her lawn but most of all she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and her friends. Carolyn passed away at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa, on Sunday, April 30, 2006, at the age of 64. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth of Sioux Rapids, IA; two daughters: Kim and her husband, Bill Salmon of Waterloo, IA, and Jill and her husband, Mark Comes of Watertown, SD; 3 grandchildren: Derek Klatt, Payton and Aden Comes; one brother, Lowell and his wife, Wanda Weber of Long Beach, CA; other relatives and many friends.
