Carolyn Jean Prange

October 20, 1946 — March 24, 2014

Carolyn Jean Prange, the daughter of George and Elsie (Appledorn) Westphal was born October 20, 1946 on a farm outside of Paullina, Iowa. She attended school in the Paullina area and graduated from Sutherland High School in 1964. She met Jay Prange in Spencer, Iowa and they were married on February 18, 1967 at the Hope Reformed Church in Spencer. Following their marriage, they lived in Spencer except for about 10 years when they lived in the Norwalk, California area. Carolyn provided daycare in her home and for a while she worked in a daycare center taking care of more than 170 children over the years. She was a member of the Hope Reformed Church. Carolyn enjoyed camping at Spring Lake Park in Cherokee, Iowa watching wildlife, especially birds and deer, but most important was spending time with her family. Carolyn passed away at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD on Monday, March 24, 2014 at the age of 67. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Marlys DeWolf; her in-laws, Gerrit and Esther and brother-in-law, Dick Roos. Left to cherish her memory is her husband, of 47 years, Jay of Spencer; their sons: Mike & Cheri of Spencer, Brian & Angie of Fostoria; grandchildren: M.J. & Tiarra of Spencer, Matthew of Iowa City, Heather & boyfriend Ty Hofman of Spencer and Keegan Mitchell of Fostoria; great grandchildren: Taneisha Alfaro & Aajon Brown both of Spencer; sister, Arlene Roos of Norwalk, CA; brother, Virgil & Janette Westphal of Madison, WI; many other family and friends.
SERVICES
Memorial Services will be held 10:30 A.M., Friday, March 28, 2014 at the Hope Reformed Church in Spencer. There will be a lunch served following the service at the church.
