Cassie Marie Carroll

Cassie Marie Carroll, the daughter of Mike Rigby and Lora Carroll, was born September 24, 1983 in Spencer, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Spencer, where she received her education, graduating from Spencer High School in 2002. In September of 2002, she moved to Hope Haven in Spencer (formerly Sunshine Center) and worked at Sunshine Services for four years. In October of 2005, she moved to Spirit Lake, where she worked at Echo Plus and lived at Hope Haven. Cassie was a member of Dayspring Assembly of God Church. She had been a patient at the Spencer Hospital since April 9, 2006 and had considered that her home and the nurses as part of her extended family. She loved reading, especially Mary Kate and Ashley Olson books. She also loved listening to Christian Music, spending time coloring with her nephews, swimming, her kittens, singing and she was active in Special Olympics. Cassie could always make people laugh and touched the lives of everyone she came in contact with. Cassie passed away at the Spencer Hospital in Spencer, Iowa on Tuesday, August 8, 2006 at the age of 22. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ray and Patricia Carroll; great aunt, Kay Horswell; great uncle Eddy Recker; infant brother, Chad Michael; cousin, Jennifer Rigby and great uncle, Bill Recker. She is survived by her biological parents: Lora Carroll of Ruthven, IA and Mike Rigby of Sioux Falls, SD; her adoptive parents: Steve and Gloria Carroll of Sutherland, IA; one sister, Heidi and her husband, Lance Fluit of Spencer; three brothers: Brian Carroll of Spencer, Joshua Carroll of Ruthven, IA and Douglas and his wife, Tracie Olsen of Shiloh, IL; five nephews: Nathan, Isaiah, Austin and Ethan Fluit and Joshua Olsen; other relatives and many other friends and acquaintances whose life she touched. God saw she was getting tired, and a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around her and whispered "come with me." With tearful eyes we watched her suffer, and saw her fade away. Although we loved her dearly, we could not make her stay. A golden heart stopped beating, Hard working hands to rest; God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.
