Charles Arthur Hagedorn the son of Harold and Bonita (Johnson) Hagedorn was born on February 9, 1947 in Spencer, IA. He was raised in the Ruthven area where he attended school and then finished up in Spencer. After high school he worked with his cousin, Marvin Hagedorn with heavy equipment for a short time before moving on to Boggess Construction and in the early 70’s Charles started his own construction company. Charles loved what he did, even after the stroke he had in 2004 he was still active in the business and when his son, Marlan took over he was still the “Boss” and they discussed everything together.
On March 28, 1964, Charles married Zelda Scott in Milford. The couple spent their entire married life in Dickens, where they raised their family. Charles welcomed many kids in his home over the years. He had a soft spot for all children as well as people in need. He was the perfect Grandpa for having sweets available and even the dogs loved him because he gave them table scraps. He enjoyed taking trips to Branson, fishing and old cars. He liked to go the Clay County Fair and participated in enduro car and figure 8 racing. He helped Zelda make porcelain dolls and supervised her making quilts, and giving his opinion on how it should be done.
He passed away on August 13, 2020 at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 73. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Jim Hagedorn; his brother-in-law, Larry Chapman and his grandson, Bryson Dean Hagedorn.
