Charles 'Chuck' Dean Meyer

Charles Dean Meyer, the son of Donald and Ruth Beatrice Johnson Meyer, was born August 19, 1942, in Spencer, IA. His childhood years were spent in rural Gillett Grove, IA, where he graduated from South Clay High School. Following graduation, he became a self- employed carpenter and contractor in Des Moines for a short time. He then moved to Spencer, IA, where he continued his trade until 2005. He later worked for Super Valu and A & M Laundry. Chuck married Susan Brown on June 6, 1981, in Lincoln, NE. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Spencer. He was an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagle's #2273 in Spencer. Charles was on the policy board for Head Start and coached in the youth baseball league. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, loved the show "Wheel of Fortune", playing Friday night bingo and driving around on his bicycle and scooter. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren. Charles passed away at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, IA, on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at the age of 66. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Bea Meyer; his daughter, Shelly Ann; infant grandchild, Dennys; two brothers: Samuel J. Meyer and Kendall Meyer and one sister, Jolene (Jody) Ruth Clark. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Susan of Spencer; his children: Brenda Wittrock of Lake Park, IA, Dale Meyer and his wife, Aimee of Archer, IA, Amy Meyer and her friend, Adam of Manson, IA and Lucas Meyer of Spencer, IA; his grandchildren: Ashley, Dallas, Chelsea, Dillan, Catlynn, Bram, Jisela, Dakota and Jenascia; sisters: Donna (Bud) Bettencourt of Fallon, NV, Nancy (Larry) Leppert of Dickens, IA; brothers: Randy Meyer of Johnston, IA, and Donald (Nancy) Meyer of Hawk Point, MO; other relatives and many friends.
