Charles Lee Elliott was born February 22, 1937 in Swea City, IA to John and Ester (Conlon) Elliott. Chuck was born premature, weighing 3 pounds. His parents placed him in a shoe box and laid him by a stove. One of Chuck’s uncles recalled the family not thinking he would survive. He beat the odds. Chuck was the oldest of 4 boys. His mother Ester passed away in 1949. Chuck was 12 and his youngest brother was one year old, leaving their father to raise the four boys alone. His father never remarried.
Chuck met his wife, Jerilyn when they were children, growing up only 2 blocks from each other. He spent his childhood in Swea City, graduating from Swea City High School in 1954.
His first job was at the Swea City Herald Newspaper in 1953, running the printing press. He continued working there until he and Jerilyn Bea Lien united in marriage on June 19th, 1960. From there, Chuck got a job at the Sieg Auto Parts Company in 1960. The couple moved to Estherville, IA. In 1962, Chuck was transferred, by the Sieg Company to Jackson, MN.
In 1964, they welcomed daughter, Kristine and less than a year welcomed son, Kevin in 1965. In 1967, Chuck was transferred again, to the Spencer, IA Sieg Company and became a traveling sales manager, selling auto parts. He met many people during his travels, many of them became close friends. Even today, they remember him for his witty humor.
In 1970 the couple welcomed son, Robert. Also in 1970, he met Mark Lykke and they became close friends, being in the auto parts business. Mark Joined Chuck in Spencer at the Sieg Company. Mark and Tim Beachem bought Johnston Automotive in 1978 and convinced Chuck to manage their Spencer Store. He began to work there right away and worked until his retirement in 2008.
Chuck loved baseball as a child and through the years. He also loved fishing and family vacations with his children and grandchildren.
Chuck passed away on February 15, 2025, at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 87. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Ken and Jim Elliott; son, Robert Elliott and twin grandsons.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jerilyn of Spencer; daughter, Kris (Frank) Huss of Spencer; son, Kevin (Judy) Elliott of Spencer; grandchildren: Stephanie, Whitney, Sean, John, Samantha, Gabby and Kairee; 14 great grandchildren; brother, Tom (Molly) Elliott of Armstrong IA; his in-laws, Betty Elliott Geisler of Littleton. CO and Randy and Judy Lien of Algona, IA; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
