Charles Earnest 'Spider' Woods

Charles Earnest 'Spider' Woods, the son of Dale and Esther (Angle) Woods, was born on March 14, 1945, in Garner, IA. As a young child Charles's family lived in various communities, including Germany, before settling in Spencer in 1962. He finished his schooling here and graduated from Spencer High School. Charles married Joanne Anderson on June 28, 1965, and to this union 3 children were born: Greg, Troy and Tammy. Following their marriage, the couple resided in Spencer, where he worked at Rexall Drug and then Spencer Pack. On May 29 1974, Charles married Valerie Hirsch in Colorado Springs, CO. They continued to live in Spencer, where he worked for Gilmore Brothers Farms and then Shine Brothers. Charles served on the Ruthven ambulance as a First Responder for 10 years and was also a Sherriff Reserve for Palo Alto County from 1992 -2002. In 2002 they moved to Reno, Nevada. Charles worked for Stead Airport right there in Reno. He moved back to Spencer in May of 2004 and worked for Shine Brothers again until his retirement in 2008. 'Spider' loved old classic cars and ride his motorcycle. He liked to go hunting, collect guns and go to auctions. He enjoyed having coffee with his lifetime friend, 'Butch', but most of all he loved to spend time with his family, which was the most important thing to him. Charles passed away near Dixon, NE, due to an automobile accident at the age of 69. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jamie Woods; his daughter, Tanya Woods; his sister, Patty Woods and his beloved dog, Cobie. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Val of Spencer, IA; his sons: Greg Woods of Sioux Falls, SD, Troy Woods and his companion, Kris Unger of Spencer, IA; Cory Woods and his companion, Samantha of Waverly, IA and Brent Pillars and his wife, Tawny of Webb, IA; his daughters: Tammy Horst and her husband, Bill of Ruthven, IA, Christy Eral and her husband, Mike of Albert City, IA and Ashley Dole and her husband, Jeff of Spencer, IA; 17 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; his sister, Della Jeffrey and her husband, Frank of Spencer, IA; his brothers: Larry Woods and his wife, Nancy of Spirit Lake, IA, Darrell Woods and his wife, Barb of Spencer, IA, Ronnie Woods and his wife, Connee of Dickens, IA and Brian Woods and his wife, Carol of Spirit Lake, IA; his adopted children: Brad Cherry and Bobbi Jo Cherry; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Memorial Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 10, at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.
