Charles Eugene Runkle, the son of George Bruce "Judd" and Irma Rorah Runkle, was born April 25, 1945 in Spencer, Iowa. He attended country schools in Clay County and later attended Everly High School, graduating in 1964. Following his schooling, he entered the military and served with the U.S. Army from September of 1964, until his honorable discharge in May of 1965.
On March 29, 1968, Charles married Karen Stevenson in Spencer and to this union two sons were born: Kirby and Ryan. Charles worked for Spencer Foods and then A&M Laundry before purchasing Helen's Laundry in 1975.
On March 21, 1986, Charles married Vonnie Jean in Spencer. Charles liked to hunt, fish, and spend time in his garden. He also liked to collect cars and ride his 4 wheeler and snowmobile, but most of all he loved to spend time with his family and friends. He was a member of Moose Lodge in Spencer.
Charles passed away on August 14, 2008 at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 63. He was preceded in death by his father and his first wife, Karen on June 20, 1983.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Vonnie of Spencer, IA; his two sons: Kirby Runkle and his wife, Ann of Spencer, IA and Ryan Runkle and his wife, Shauna of Spencer, IA; his daughter, Shari Ellefson and her husband, Shane of Spencer, IA; his stepson, Chris Feeley and his wife, Tricia of Urbandale, IA; 13 grandchildren; one brother, Ronald Runkle of Spencer, IA; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 10:30a.m., Saturday, August 16, 2008 at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.
