Charles Ray Toelle was born in Estherville, Iowa, on March 15, 1920, to David & Bess Toelle. When Charles was 3 years of age, his parents moved their family to their farm southwest of Spencer. It was on that farm where Charles was raised and spent most of his life. Charles attended the rural country school close to the farm through the 8th grade and also attended the 9th grade in Spencer.
Charles farmed with his Dad until he enlisted & served in the US Navy in WWII in the Pacific. After the war, Charles returned to Spencer to continue farming until his full retirement in 2006. He married Martha Lavon Ralle on March 28, 1946, and they raised three children.
Among other things, Charles was active in the Farm Bureau, the American Legion, 4-H & FFA support, and as Clay County Fair Floraculture Superintendent. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking with primarily walnut hardwood furniture creation and restoration.
Charles enjoyed good health throughout his life, and after a relatively short illness, Charles passed away on Monday evening, September 20, 2010 at the age of 90. Charles was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Michael.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Lavon Toelle of Spencer; son, Doug Toelle of Houston, TX; daughter, Patricia (Toelle)Lindsey of Leon, IA; grandson Kristopher Lindsey of Leon, IA; and granddaughter Paige (Lindsey) Stearns and her husband Brian Stearns of Spencer, IA; and many other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Memorial Services will be held at 10:00A.M., Saturday, September 25, 2010, at the Warner Chapel.
A Military Service will be conducted by the American Legion - Glen Pedersen Post #1 and the V.F.W. Clay County Post #3159 both of Spencer.
