Charles Remington Hyde

October 13, 1929 — April 11, 2011

(Charles) Remington Hyde, the only child of Irma (Remington) Hill Hyde and Pastor C.A. Hyde was born October 13, 1929 at the Presbyterian Manse in Manchester, Iowa and went home to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at 6:00 am, Monday, April 11, 2011. He moved to the family farm with his parents in 1930 where he lived for the next 60 years until restoring the family home in Peterson where they lived for the next 10 years. He graduated from Peterson Community High School in 1947 and attended both Iowa State University and Buena Vista University for a short while. On January 1, 1950 he married the love of his life, Ethel Duncan at her family home in Sutherland. To this union two children were born: Michael K. Hyde and Charles Hyde. In 2002, due to poor health they moved to Spencer, Iowa to be close to the hospital. He enjoyed his life's calling of farming especially helping his family with poultry farm and combining grain with Charles every fall. He was a member of the Maple Grove Church of God, a director of the Parker Historical Board, a director of the Clay County Cattle Feeders Association, a deacon and an elder and Sunday School teacher at the Sutherland Church of Christ, Sunday School superintendent and treasurer at the Maple Grove Church of God. His passion was the church and its outreach and he quietly and deliberately ministered in the name of his Lord enjoying nothing more than taking a van load of people to church or the Okoboji Bible Conference or the nursing home services. One of the highlights of his life was receiving the 100 year family farm award in Des Moines with his family. He enjoyed tractor pulling with his son Charles, collecting inkwells and anything else that Michael was currently passionate about. He was always good to do a fast road trip to pick up just one more thing that Michael had 'spotted'. Many a time the van was so full mom almost had to ride shotgun. He especially enjoyed his family and the final day of his life on earth was to the fullest as he was surrounded by those he loved. Left to celebrate and cherish his memory are his wife of 61 years, Ethel Hyde of Spencer; two sons: Michael Hyde of Spencer, and Charles Hyde and his wife, Betty of Peterson; three grandchildren: Holly Dickinson of Mountain Home, ID, Karen (Roger) Rigby of Spencer and Ben Hyde of Spencer; 6 great grandchildren: Christopher Hyde, Dylan and Abby Dickinson, Marshal, Catherine and Myra Hyde; sisters-in-law: Esther (Harry) Jalas of Sutherland and Shirley Duncan of Hartley; many nieces and nephews and his aunt, Blanche Heston of Roanoke, VA.
