Charles Scheil

Charles Edward Scheil was born June 3, 1931 in Sioux City, IA to Max and Bethel (Meyer) Scheil. His childhood years were spent in the Sioux City area where he attended school, graduating from Central High School in Sioux City in 1949. He enlisted in the Air National Guard in 1949 and during the Korean War, served as a military policeman in Bangor, ME, until his Honorable Discharge in 1952. Charles married Lois Holley on February 9, 1951 in Sioux City, IA. He worked for Western Electric in Sioux City and then Northwestern Bell in Sioux City and Spencer, IA. He then worked for AT&T in St. Louis, MO until his retirement in 1988 and moved to Okoboji, IA. Charles enjoyed reading, golfing, being at the lake and boating. He was known for teasing and his wit. He was a member of the Kiwanis for 30 years and served as their Lt. Governor from 1977-1978. Charles passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 85. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lois; and one sister, Betty Gruhn. Left to cherish his memory are his 4 children, Randall (Cynthia) Scheil of Cedar Rapids, IA, Robyn (Mark) Larsen of Spencer, Richard (Terri) Scheil of El Segundo, CA, and Russell of Aurora, IL; 9 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, with one on the way; other relatives; and many friends. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Charles' name.
SERVICES
Funeral services will take place 1:30 P.M., Saturday, March 11, at Hope Reformed Church in Spencer.
