Charles William Turnquist, Jr., the son of Charles Sr., and Myrtle (Smith) Turnquist, was born on October 29, 1934, in Spencer, Iowa. He was raised and received his education in the Greenville and Rossie area where he graduated from high school in 1954. After graduation, he entered into the military on May 17, 1956 and serving in the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged on April 17, 1958, but served in the Army Reserves until May 16, 1962. On April 8, 1967, he married Joan Margherio El Monte, CA. They lived in Ventura, California for many years and then moved back to Iowa, living in Chariton and settling in Spencer in 2001. He was involved in farming, livestock, and trucking throughout his life, retiring in 2004.
Charles married Janice Heisler on October 22, 2005 in Spencer, Iowa. Charles enjoyed watching bull riding and bronc riding on T.V. He volunteered many places and was on the Board of Directors at the Senior Center and Past President of the Auxiliary Club.
Charles passed away on May 24, 2017 at Welcov Assisted Living in Papillion, NE at the age of 82. Charles had been living there the past year to be near family. He was preceded in death by his parents; both of his wives and his siblings.
Left to cherish his memory are his son, Steve (Linda Cook) of Spirit Lake, IA; his daughter, Terri Kinstler (Kyle) of Omaha, NE; his grandchildren: Jamie, Samantha, Kyle Charles, Jordan and Creighton; his great grandchild, Jaelyn; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M., Saturday, Saturday, May 27, at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.
Instead of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the Alzheimer's Association.
