Charlotte Mary Woolery

Charlotte Mary Woolery, the daughter of Floyd E. Wilkie and Alice M. (Pierce) Wilkie, was born October 3, 1926 in Alpha, Iowa located in Fayette County. Her childhood years were spent in Eden Township near Waucoma, IA and later Alpha Consolidated School, where she received her early education. Her family later moved to northwest Iowa, where she continued her education, graduating from Lake Center High School in 1944. Charlotte married Esley Earl Woolery on December 31, 1944 at the Methodist Parsonage in Fostoria, IA. Following their marriage, they lived in Spencer, where she worked at Scott's Store in Spencer from 1944 to 1976. She went to work at Grace United Methodist Church in 1976 and continued there until her initial retirement in 1997. Later, she worked at Longhouse Residence and volunteered at the Spencer Hospital and the Senior Center for many years. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, where she was active as a Sunday school teacher for 27 years and was involved in the church circle. Charlotte was also an active member of the Disabled American Veteran's Auxiliary and was a charter member of the United Methodist Iowa Secretary's Organization. Charlotte passed away at the Longhouse Residence in Spencer, IA on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at the age of 82. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Larry in 1954; a granddaughter, Cindy Menting in 1973; her husband, Earl in 1988; 2 brothers: Raymond and Vern Wilkie and two sisters: Muriel and Mildred. Left to cherish her memory are one son, Randy and his wife, Cheri Woolery of Spencer; two daughters: Linda and her husband, Marvin Menting of Spencer, IA and Lori Henderson of Salt Lake City, Utah; 8 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; two sisters: Dorothy and her husband, Alvin Denny of Klemme, IA and Grace Hastings of Spencer, IA; other relatives and friends.
