Cheryl "Squirrelly" Ann Hurst

     Cheryl “Squirrelly” Ann Hurst, the daughter of Rudolph and Lois (Reese) Beck was born December 1, 1949 in Spencer, IA. Her childhood years were spent in the Royal, IA area, where she attended school and graduated from Clay Central High School in 1968. Cheryl continued her education at Mankato State where she received her BA in Education.

     Cheryl married Phillip Hurst on July 28, 1973 at the First Baptist Church in Spencer, IA. She began teaching at Terril Schools and eventually Spencer Schools until her retirement in 2005, though she remained on as a substitute.

     Cheryl enjoyed kayaking, staying active, attending the Clay County Fair, watching Bald Eagles, hosting get-togethers, baking her “famous” pies, and especially spending time with family.

     Cheryl passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at Lakes Regional Hospital in Spirit Lake, IA at the age of 72. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one brother, Randy.

     Left to cherish her memory are her 2 children: John (Regina) Hurst of San Antonia, TX and Sara (Dave) Schmidt of Spencer; 3 grandchildren: Sam, Kael, and Hazel; 2 brothers-in-law: Steve (Connie) Hurst and Joel (Debbie) Hurst; 2 sisters-in-law: Diane Bryant and Joyce (Lane) Muckey; numerous beloved nieces and nephews; and many, many friends.

SERVICES
Memorial services will take place 10:30 A.M., Saturday, December 11 at Hope Reformed Church in Spencer.

*The family encourages masks be worn at the service.
