Chester Austin Russell, the son of Charles and Pearl Aleshire Russell, was born November 15, 1914 in Toledo, Illinois. His childhood years were spent in Toledo, where he received his education, graduating from Toledo High School in 1934.
Chester married Hazel Nell Boswell on May 4, 1940. Chester served the United States Army during World War II on the SS James Barbour from May 12, 1942 until his honorable discharge on March 22, 1946.
After returning from the army, he was employed at Yellow Transit Truck Lines, Hayes Freight Lines and retired after working at Young Radiator in Mattoon, Illinois for 31 years. Chester was a member of the Effingham American Legion Post #120. His daughter and son-in-law brought Chester to Spencer, Iowa in 1998 to care for him in their home. He was also cared for at the Ruthven Care Facility.
Mr. Russell passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Monday, February 5, 2007 at the age of 92. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Hazel; one sister, Olive Livine and one brother, Charles, Jr.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Dorothy and her husband, Pastor Dale Hodges; one granddaughter, Ruth and her husband, C. Bradley Wallace; 5 great grandchildren: Abigail, Nicholas, Andrew, Elisabeth and Nathanael Wallace all of Spencer, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Vi Russell of Toledo, Illinois and Opal Kroenlein of Effingham, Illinois; nieces, nephews and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 1:30 P.M., Thursday, February 8, 2007 at the Swengel-O'Dell Funeral Home in Neoga, Illinois.
Military Services will be conducted by the Effingham American Legion Post #120.

Visitation will begin one hour prior to the services at the funeral home in Illinois. There will be no viewing or visitation in Spencer.
