Christine Mathern

Christine Mathern, the daughter of Wilhelm and Katherine (Hansen) Rahbusch, was born June 1, 1926, in Treia Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Her family moved to America to Sutherland, Iowa, when Christine was a child. She received her education and graduated from Sutherland High School in 1947. After high school, she worked for a short time until her marriage. Christine married Paul Richard Mathern on June 2, 1947, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sutherland. They farmed for many years near Gaza, Iowa until their retirement in 1993, when they moved to the town of Sutherland. She was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sutherland. On Friday, May 16, 2014, Christine passed away at the Sutherland Care Center at the age of 87. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul; brothers: Bill, Tom and John; and one sister, Ella. Left to cherish her memory are her three sons: Richard Mathern and wife, Janine of Eagan, MN, Steven Mathern of Hiawatha, IA, and Eugene Mathern and wife, Tina of Hoffman Estates, Illinois; one daughter, Pamela Hanson and husband, Walt of Milford, Iowa; four grandchildren: Angela Mann and husband, Shawn, Katie Hanson, Paul Mathern and Kelsey Mathern; two brothers: Harry and Herman; four sisters: Marianne, Betty, Marga and Ruth; other relatives and friends.
