Clara Anna Sickelka, the daughter of Walter and Clara (Hoppe) Ebel, was born August 16, 1931 in Iona, MN. Her childhood years were spent on a farm outside of Granville, IA, where she received her education, graduating from Paullina High School. She was baptized on August 30, 1931 at Zion Lutheran Church in Iona, Minnesota and confirmed on June 10, 1945 at St. John Lutheran Church in Germantown, IA.
Clara married Delmar Sickelka on September 20, 1951 in Germantown, IA. After their marriage, they lived on a farm near Gaza where she was a homemaker and always helped on the farm. They retired to Sutherland in 2003. She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Sutherland, where she taught Sunday school and catechism for many years. She was an active member of her church, was a charter member of the Altar Guild, worked with a group to print Braille Bibles and helped make many quilts for World Relief. Clara also enjoyed raising flowers, gardening, sewing, fishing, as well as cooking and baking. She thoroughly enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandson.
She passed away at Baum-Harmon Hospital in Primghar, Iowa on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at the age of 83. Clara was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Nancy; three sisters: Helen, Velma and Bernice and three brothers: Roy, Harry and Donald.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Delmar of Sutherland; her children: Mark (Pat) Sickelka of Peterson, Mary (Roger) Postma of Peterson, Jon (Nancy) Sickelka of Cedar Rapids, IA, Joel (Wendi) Sickelka of Sutherland and James (Denise) Sickelka of Sutherland; 17 grandchildren; one great grandchild; one sister, Lillian Lage of Detroit Lakes, MN; sister-in-laws, Shirley Ebel and Margaret Ebel of Paullina, Jan Ebel of Sutherland; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Saturday, March 14, 2015 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Sutherland.
