Clara Iona Christensen

Clara Iona Christensen, the daughter of William H. and Mary Backhaus Steffen, was born March 21, 1916 on a farm south of Royal, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Royal/Peterson area where she received her education in Clay County schools. Clara married James B. Christensen on May 2, 1936 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Royal. Clara was a lifelong member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, taught Sunday School for many years as well as being a member of LWML. Clara enjoyed being a member of Homemakers Extension, cooking, crafting and spending time with her family. Clara passed away at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa on Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at the age of 90. She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers: Elmer, Everett, Alfred, Bill and one brother in infancy and four sisters: Etta Klatt, Marion Rohweder, Leona Kreisel and one sister in infancy. She is survived by her husband, James of Spencer; one daughter and her husband, Mary Ann and Russell Morey of Macomb, Illinois; one son and his wife, James William and Tami Christensen of Spencer, Iowa; five grandchildren; three great grandsons; two sisters: Caroline Peterson of Newbury Park, California and Marjorie Powell of Spirit Lake, Iowa; one sister-in-law, Amanda Steffen of Spencer, Iowa; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
